(added last year!)

After three-day trials that concluded at the Garrison Golf Course here on Monday, a senior Pakistan golf team for participation in the Asia Pacific Seniors Championship, to be held at Bangkok from November 24 to 26, was named by the Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF). Those selected on the basis of performance in the trials were: Mohammad Shafi (Garrison), Nayyar Afzal (Rawalpindi), Shafiq Bhatti (Gymkhana), Abdul Haq (Peshawar), Abdul Qayum Rashid (Punjab Police) and Taimur Hassan (Islamabad).

While the first five earned a place to represent Pakistan after intense trials, Taimur was granted exemption being the current national champion in the seniors’ category. From the statistical angle, Shafi topped the trials and quite a few luminaries amongst the aspirants could not make it and included such established names as Shoaib Bokhari who was extremely unlucky to miss selection as he had a devastating last hole (a triple bogie), Javed Khan, Saud Khan, Mohammad Azam Khan, Mohammad Safi and Fasih Ali Anwar.

Concurrently trials were also held to select a women’s team and a boys’ team in two age categories. Nushmiya Sukhera of Lahore Gymkhana topped in the race for selection among the women and earned a place to represent Pakistan. In the boys’ category, Mubraiz Ahmed of Karachi and Aman Tariq of Islamabad made it to the team.
